Unit Manager Shipping Stockholm

Do you want to help develop and manage some of Stockholm's most exciting and attractive places? Are you an engaged and confident leader ready for the next challenge? Stockholm Ports is now looking for a unit manager to lead the operations within the Shipping Stockholm unit.

Your role as Unit Manager Shipping Stockholm

You will work to develop the processes for shipping to Stockholm's port together with the unit's port masters. This includes, among other things, calls for ferries, international cruise ships, other commercial vessels, archipelago vessels, port traffic, yachts, and stationary commercial activities. You will lead and develop the operational activities at Stockholm Ports' quays and terminals, with a strong focus on long-term management and maintenance from a lifecycle perspective.

You will ensure that the infrastructure assets are appropriate, cost-effective, and sustainable. Safety and environmental considerations always have the highest priority. By driving and optimizing contracts with contractors, you ensure that the operations are characterized by high quality, efficient resource use, and a customer-oriented approach.

Your daily work involves being responsible for land and other operational agreements, necessary permits, and ensuring safe operations at the facilities. You will exercise leadership that engages, builds trust and security, and motivates your employees to deliver good results.

The Shipping Stockholm unit is responsible for coordination in terminals and other port facilities. In connection with visits from naval vessels, state vessels, cruise ship calls, and other vessel calls, you will act as the port master on-site at the quay.

You report to the head of the Port Operations department and are part of the department's management team. Some on-call duty outside regular working hours is included in the position.

You will, among other things:

  • manage and develop the processes for shipping to Stockholm's port
  • be responsible for operations with associated agreements and permits at Stockholm Ports' quays and terminals
  • have budget and work environment responsibility for the unit and be responsible for the unit's operational planning
  • be responsible for overarching contacts with the City of Stockholm and supervisory authorities in the operations
  • be part of Stockholm Ports' organization for shipping protection
  • handle referrals within your area of responsibility and inquiries regarding leases and events
  • participate in the department's emergency preparedness work every fifth weekend
  • prepare, organize, and participate in vessel calls to the port.

What you bring to the role

We are looking for someone with a nautical university education in shipping, along with basic education in economics and technology. You have worked in the shipping sector with commercial vessels or archipelago traffic and have good knowledge of the shipping sector. It is important that you understand what is important for both shipping companies and vessels during port stays.

You also have:

  • worked as a manager with budget and personnel responsibility
  • actively worked with customers and have good experience in business development
  • extensive experience in following and applying rules, regulations, and guidelines
  • good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written
  • a B driver's license.

It is an advantage if you have:

  • education in shipping logistics and/or advanced technical areas
  • experience with systematic work environment management
  • training in hazardous goods.

To succeed in the role, you are customer-oriented and have experience in nurturing and developing good relationships with customers. You are outgoing and have a good ability to collaborate and communicate with others in a responsive manner to achieve good results. Being able to lead and develop a function while also operating from a consolidated corporate perspective is a prerequisite.
